Rolex Submariner Date Steel
Ref. 16610
The reference 16610 was introduced in 1988 replacing the reference 1680. It was produced up to circa 2010 before the new Submariner Date with the thicker case and ceramic bezel insert was introduced. This 16610 is one of the longest references in production.
The case on this reference 16610 is made from 904L stainless steel with a 3-piece design. It is 40mm in diameter and 14 mm thick with a lug width of 20 mm. After 2003, the lug holes on the case were removed by Rolex. The Oyster bracelet was also updated with the solid-end links variant.
The Submariner 16610 definitely inherits a lot from its ancestors, and, as with any Rolex, it’s built to extremely high contemporary standards. Inside is the caliber 3135 movement, which has been at the core of Rolex’s arsenal since 1988. It’s a COSC-certified chronometer automatic movement with about 50 hours of power reserve and 31 jewels.
