Regardless of carrier support, all iPhone 8 Plus models have a 5.5″ (diagonal) widescreen multitouch “True Tone” LED-backlit 1920×1080 native resolution “Retina HD” display (401 ppi, 625 cd/m2) and a taptic-engine powered solid state “clickless” Home button.

The iPhone 8 Plus has three cameras. It has dual rear 12-megapixel 4K cameras (one wide-angle with an f/1.8 aperture and one telephoto with a f/2.8 aperture) that use software to emulate a 2x optical zoom as well as a 10x digital zoom. These rear cameras also provide “portrait mode” and lighting software in addition to optical image stabilization, a 6-element lens, and wide color capture. The front “FaceTime HD” camera is 7 megapixels and supports 1080p video capture. The cameras support motion tracking and offer augmented reality support, too.

The iPhone 8 Plus uses an “aerospace-grade” aluminum alloy case reinforced by steel and has a glass front and back. It is splash, water, and dust-resistant (IP67), but not water-proof, and it has stereo speakers and a Lightning port. It originally was offered in three metallic color options — gold, silver, or a dark “Space Gray”, but from April 9, 2018 to September 12, 2018, Apple also sold a (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition model with a black front and a red back.

Internally, the iPhone 8 Plus is powered by a 64-bit “Apple A11 Bionic” processor with six cores — two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores — and has 3 GB of RAM, as well as 64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB of flash storage (128 GB option introduced and 256 GB discontinued on September 10, 2019). It also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE (4G), and NFC for Apple Pay.

Apple estimates that the iPhone 8 Plus provides “up to” 60 hours of audio playback, 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of Internet use, and 14 hours of wireless video playback. Because of the device’s glass back, the battery can be charged wirelessly using a charging mat that supports the Qi standard.

In Japan, this model originally was available unlocked and contract-free for 89,800 or 106,800 with 64 GB or 256 GB of storage, respectively.

On September 12, 2018, Apple cut the price of this iPhone 8 to 78,800 and 95,800, still with 64 GB or 256 GB of storage, respectively.

Finally, on September 10, 2019, Apple discontinued the 256 GB option and introduced a new 128 GB one. With 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, this iPhone 8 Plus was offered for 62,800 or 67,800, respectively. On April 15, 2020, the iPhone 8 was discontinued altogether.
